Contact Your Vet

The first thing you’ll need to do is contact your vet and let them know you’re moving. Ask if they have any recommendations for making the transition smoother for your pet, and be sure to get a copy of their medical records. You’ll also want to make sure your pet is up-to-date on all of their shots and vaccinations.

Prepare a Travel Kit

Next, you’ll want to put together a travel kit for your pet. This should include everything they’ll need while en route to your new home, such as food and water bowls, a leash, toys, bedding, and any medications they take.

Make Some Arrangements

If you’re moving with a dog, you’ll need to make arrangements for someone to take care of them while you’re packing and on moving day. If you have a cat, they can probably stay in their carrier during the move, but you’ll still need to make sure they have food, water, and a litter box.

Create a Safe Space

When you first arrive at your new home, create a safe space for your pet to stay in while you unpack. This should be an area where they can’t escape, and it should be stocked with their travel kit. Once you’re finished unpacking, let your pet explore the rest of the house at their own pace.
